Solar Energy Benefits All Families | Suntech Unveils New Products to Support Rooftop PV Development in Japanese Market
It is believed that Tokyo, Japan will impose mandatory PV requirements for new buildings and residences. Suntech Japan Branch (hereinafter referred to as "Suntech Japan") held a new product release conference at Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo, Japan on November 24, 2022, to launch the newly developed distributed residential PV modules to meet the demand of the Japanese market with higher efficiency, lower LCOE, and higher yield.

PV is one of the main drivers to achieve the goal of “peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality”. According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA) are jointly formulating new rules. The authorities of Japan plan to introduce new mandatory PV requirements for new buildings and residences from 2025. The new rules, if approved, may require companies to install solar panels on 30% of the roof area, and 85% for some areas in Tokyo.

As we all know, since Japan has a large population with limited land, the government of Japan makes great efforts to save land resources. Due to the impact of natural disasters, the government has been committed to reducing its dependence on fossil fuels. Therefore, distributed PV power generation is favored in the Japanese market to solve the problem of energy utilization in limited space. Compared with centralized PV, distributed PV modules are simpler and more flexible in installation, operation and maintenance, and capacity expansion. Furthermore, distributed PV is a good choice for households and industrial and commercial users, as it covers a small area and can realize self-generation and self-consumption by utilizing distributed energy resources.
